Gannett's British newspaper division Newsquest is closing one of it printing sites.
According to the Guardian's Stephen Brook, Newsquest is shutting down the Newport plant, the company's only Welsh site. It is said this action could lead to 21 jobs cut.
Gavin Steacy, the regional managing director of Newsquest Wales, told the Guardian that "there's enough capacity in Weymouth, Oxford, and Worcester to absorb the work that is currently done in Newport."
Moreover, Newsquest is converting the South Wales Argus from an evening paper to a morning publication.
"As a result of this review it is proposed to close the Newport press facility and migrate Wales and Gloucestershire titles to other Newsquest print sites that can offer more color and produce our titles more efficiently without the need for pre-printing and inserting, thereby reducing costs significantly for the group," according to a quotes from Newsquest.
While Newsquest plans to shut down the Welsh plant, Steacy said the company centralised some accounting functions in Newport, Editor and Puiblisher reported.
