Trinity Mirror's Birmingham Post will re-launch in the autumn as a weekday, business-focused tabloid with a mobile site, Press Gazette reported.
One centralised production desk and a multimedia content desk will be the new editorial system used to run the Post, as well as the Birmingham Mail and Sunday Mercury, as part of sweeping changes Trinity Mirror is making to cut costs and keep its regional titles afloat.
The new version of the Post will “significantly sharpen” business coverage, with aims to attract younger business readers, Press Gazette reported Tuesday.
The latest ABC figures show the Post has a circulation of 12,549, which includes 3,581 given away, Monday through Saturday. The Saturday edition will be closed after the re-launch.
“We think with the new design for the compact Post, we’ve met the challenge of redefining and re-invigorating the paper as an unashamedly high-quality, serious title for the 21st century,” Marc Reeves, the paper's editor, told Press Gazette.
The new mobile site is part of the company's expansion it is rolling out for all its newspapers. The most recent was the Daily Mirror's mobile site, launched in July.
